Alumni Talk -Beyond Boundaries: My Journey from Electrical Engineering to the Army – Circuits to Command
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering organised an inspiring Alumni Talk titled “Beyond Boundaries: My Journey from Electrical Engineering to the Army – Circuits to Command” on 17th March 2026 at Tejas Seminar Hall. The session was delivered by Major Swathi Shantha Kumar, an esteemed alumna from the 2012–2016 batch who currently serves in the Indian Army. She shared her remarkable journey from engineering education to a distinguished career in the armed forces.
The speaker explained how her academic foundation in EEE strengthened her problem-solving abilities, discipline, and analytical approach during military training. She highlighted various entry pathways for engineering graduates into the armed forces, including SSC, CDS, and technical entry schemes. Major Swathi emphasised leadership, teamwork, and resilience as essential qualities for succeeding in defence services. She also encouraged women students to break stereotypes and explore the armed forces with confidence.
The session underscored the value of physical fitness, strong fundamentals, time management, and communication skills for personal and professional growth. Students actively participated in an interactive Q&A session, asking questions about defence exam preparation, military life, and career opportunities for engineers. The speaker shared real-life experiences that motivated students to pursue meaningful and unconventional career paths.
The event generated greater awareness of defence career options and inspired students to build discipline and leadership qualities. The session strengthened alumni–student engagement and showcased the inspiring achievements of NHCE graduates. Overall, the talk left a strong impact on students, encouraging them to broaden their horizons and pursue careers driven by passion, purpose, and service to the nation.
