Green Campus Initiative- Role of Engineers in Climate Resilience

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) organised an awareness programme on “Role of Engineers in Climate Resilience” on 25 April 2026 at the Falconry Seminar Hall. The event was conducted as part of the department’s Silver Jubilee Year Celebrations and Green Campus Initiative, in association with the IEEE NHCE Student Branch and the IEEE DEIS Student Branch Chapter.

The programme aimed to create awareness among students about the growing challenges posed by climate change and the crucial role engineers play in designing sustainable, resilient, and environmentally responsible solutions. The session featured Dr. J. V. Jagannatha Venkataramaiah, retired ISRO scientist and environmental engineer, as the Chief Guest and Resource Person.

During his address, Dr. Venkataramaiah elaborated on the far-reaching impacts of climate change on ecosystems, infrastructure, and human livelihoods. He highlighted the significance of engineering innovations in addressing environmental concerns through renewable energy systems, smart grid technologies, and sustainable urban development practices. He also discussed important areas such as water resource management, waste management, and climate-resilient transportation systems.

Drawing upon practical examples and real-world case studies, he demonstrated how engineering solutions can mitigate environmental impacts and support climate adaptation efforts. He encouraged students to embrace eco-friendly practices and adopt interdisciplinary approaches to sustainability and innovation. The session also underscored the importance of collaboration among engineers, scientists, policymakers, and society in building a climate-resilient future.

An engaging interactive session enabled students to raise questions and gain deeper insights into sustainable engineering practices and emerging green technologies. The programme successfully enhanced students’ understanding of climate resilience and reinforced the responsibilities of engineers in addressing environmental challenges.

Overall, the event served as an inspiring platform that motivated students to contribute towards a sustainable future through innovation, responsible engineering practices, and environmental stewardship.
