EEE departments Green Energy Club organized “War of Words –A Debate Challenged”

OBJECTIVE
The main potential is to bring out the enthusiasm and ability of the students towards communication and create awareness, also to acquire knowledge on various topics.

ACTIVITIES
The participants were divided into groups of two and encouraged to debate one-on-one and put forward their thoughts and views on the topic given to them.

INAUGURATION
The event was inaugurated by our honorable HOD, Dr. M Mahesh in the presence of our faculty coordinator, Mr. Vinod Kumar S, all the participants and the judges, Ms. Preethi Sinha and Mr. Mohamed Saifuddin F.
The event was hosted by Soumyashree and Shariq Ahmed, members of the Green Energy Club.

INTRODUCTION:
‘War of Words’ is a debate challenge that was conducted by the Green energy Club, Electrical and Electronics Department, on 11th November,2020 to bring out the best of the participants, to acquire knowledge on various topics and enhance the participants’ communication and debating skills.

ROUNDS AND RULES
Round 1
• Round 1 was a quiz competition conducted on 10th November,2020
• Quiz consisted of 10 general knowledge questions that had to be answered within the time limit.
• Top 24 students were selected for Round 2.

Round 2
• Round 2 was conducted on 11th November, 2020, at 2pm.
• The participants were divided into groups of two and each of the groups were given a topic to debate.
• Each of the groups were given a total time limit of 5 minutes. One of participants had to speak FOR the topic and
the other AGAINST. FOR or AGAINST was decided by a toss.
• One of the participants from each group was selected for Round 3.

Round 4
• 12 participants from Round 2 were selected for Round 3.
• 6 participants were selected from the round to move forward to the final round, with the
rules same as Round 2.

Round 4
•This was the final round of the debate.
•The 6 participants were again divided into groups of two.
•The total time limit was extended to 7 minutes each group along with the interaction with our judges. The judges were given a chance to question the participants on topic.
•First, Second and Third positions were selected by the judges based on the participants’ confidence, facts and voice modulation.

TOPICS
•Should zoos be banned?
•Should everyone go vegan?
•Battery vehicles are better than fossil fuel vehicles?
•Manure should be used instead of fertilizers for fields?
•Is the use of gadgets instead of books a better choice?
•Will COVID-19 19 bring long lasting environmental changes?
•Mining should be banned.
•Building multi-storey buildings and apartments should be restricted.
•Using dyes on fabrics should be restricted.
•Does tourism affect the environment?
•Do crackers actually affect the environment?
•Are humans controlled by the technology?

CONCLUSION:
After the four rounds, the results were announced by the judges, Ms. Preethi Sinha and Mr. Mohamed Saifuddin.
The winners of the debate challenge were:

•The event was successfully completed with the vote of thanks by Mr. Vinod Kumar S (Faculty Coordinator club)
•All the participants were provided with the E-certificates.
•This event engaged the students in a fun filled activity and also helped them bring out their thoughts on the environmental issues and the current affairs.
