EXTENSION PROGRAM
Jakkur Lake Cleanliness and Eco-Drive 2026

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE), New Horizon College of Engineering, in collaboration with the IEEE NHCE Student Branch, IEEE DEIS Chapter, Green Energy Club, and Jala Poshan Trust, organised the “Jakkur Lake Cleanliness and Eco-Drive 2026” on 30th September 2026. The initiative was conducted as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to promote environmental sustainability and community engagement.
Students, faculty members, and conservation volunteers actively participated in restoring and preserving the ecological health of Jakkur Lake. The drive focused on the systematic removal of plastic waste, non-biodegradable debris, and litter accumulated around the lake premises. Participants were trained in safe waste handling practices and effective source segregation methods under the guidance of environmental experts.
Student teams were deployed across different sectors of the lake to carry out coordinated clean-up and waste classification activities. The programme also included an eco-awareness campaign in which students interacted with visitors and encouraged sustainable practices such as waste reduction, recycling, composting, and water conservation.
Through these activities, participants gained hands-on experience in environmental stewardship and civic responsibility. Approximately 10 kg of collected waste was segregated and handed over for proper disposal through authorised channels. The event concluded with an Environmental Stewardship Pledge, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to sustainability and inspiring students to become responsible custodians of the environment.
