Webinar-Design of Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) Motor Using JMAG
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at NHCE organised a webinar on 4 May 2026 focusing on the design of Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) and SynRM motors using JMAG software. The session was delivered by Mr Jeevan S, FEA Support Engineer at Powersys Engineering Solutions. The webinar highlighted the growing importance of electric machines across industries such as electric vehicles, automation, and renewable energy.
The speaker introduced JMAG as an advanced simulation tool used for electromagnetic, thermal, and structural analysis of motors. Fundamental concepts of IPM and SynRM motors, including their operating principles and advantages, were explained in a clear and systematic manner. The session also discussed the motor design workflow, emphasising important parameters such as speed, torque, and efficiency.
Various rotor designs and magnet configurations were explored to demonstrate their influence on motor performance. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) techniques were showcased for the accurate prediction of motor behaviour and performance characteristics. The webinar further covered loss analysis and efficiency mapping methods for improving motor efficiency and reliability.
The resource person also explained the multi-physics simulation capabilities available in JMAG, which enable thermal and structural validation of motor designs. Integration with power electronics and control systems through model reduction techniques was also discussed. Overall, the webinar effectively bridged theoretical concepts with practical applications and provided valuable insights into modern electric motor design and simulation.
