Expert Lecture on -Advanced Technologies in Electrical & Electronics Engineering

The Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering conducted an expert lecture on Advanced Technologies in Electrical & Electronics Engineering on 6 March 2026 for fourth-semester students. The session was delivered by Dr. Z. H. Sholapurwala.

The lecture aimed to familiarise students with high voltage engineering and pulse power technologies, particularly in defence and aerospace applications. Dr. Sholapurwala discussed ongoing research developments in high voltage systems and their significance in modern electronic warfare and defence mechanisms. He elaborated on the functioning of pulse power systems, highlighting critical applications in ignition, detonation, and radar technologies.

Students were introduced to armament electronics and instrumentation techniques employed in ballistics testing. The speaker detailed specialised components such as high voltage pulse transformers and trigger generators used in defence hardware. Concepts related to EMP systems and their protective engineering were also explained. Additionally, he described the design and operational characteristics of Marx generators and impulse generators used in high-energy discharge experiments. Practical examples of applications, ranging from missile and rocket ignition to explosive testing, were presented.

The lecture further covered the use of high voltage technologies in lightning testing, plasma generation, and radar power supplies. Dr. Sholapurwala also highlighted medical applications, including CT scanners and lithotripsy equipment. Students gained a clear understanding of how electrical engineering concepts are applied in critical national defence and aerospace projects.

The session successfully bridged academic learning with real-world industrial practices and emphasised indigenous technological development in India. It encouraged students to consider research and career pathways in advanced electrical engineering domains. Overall, the lecture was highly informative, and the Department expressed gratitude to Dr. Sholapurwala for sharing his expertise and engaging meaningfully with the students.
