TEDx Talk - Engineering a World Where Everyone Belongs

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, in collaboration with the IEEE NHCE Student Branch and IEEE DEIS, organised a TEDx Talk titled “Engineering a World Where Everyone Belongs” on 17th March 2026. The session was conducted for 6th-semester EEE students and aimed to broaden their understanding of inclusive engineering practices.

The speaker, Broecke Mia, delivered an insightful and thought-provoking talk, emphasising the importance of inclusivity and diversity within the field of engineering. She highlighted how inclusive design plays a vital role in developing technologies that cater to all sections of society, rather than a limited group of users.

The talk addressed real-world challenges arising from inaccessible systems and underscored the importance of adopting user-centric approaches in engineering solutions. Students gained an understanding of how empathy and ethical considerations contribute significantly to responsible technological development.

The session also featured case studies that demonstrated accessible and innovative design practices, offering practical insights into inclusive engineering. An interactive segment encouraged students to engage in discussions about societal needs and share their perspectives on inclusivity and accessibility.

The event reinforced the idea that engineering must go beyond technical expertise to incorporate human values. Students actively participated through questions and discussions centred on real-world accessibility concerns.

Overall, the session inspired students to think beyond conventional problem-solving and to consider the broader societal impact of their work, motivating them to contribute towards building a more equitable and inclusive world through thoughtful engineering.
