Date: 15th October, 2025
Time: 03:00PM-04:00 PM

On 15th October 2025, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at New Horizon College of Engineering hosted a TEDx Talk titled “How Are Microchips Made?” in Room B-203. The session was part of the Department’s initiative to expose students to emerging technologies and practical insights into semiconductor manufacturing.

Renowned science communicators George Zaidan and Sajan Saini , in the talk emphasized the complex process of microchip fabrication. They traced the evolution of microchips, explained key steps such as silicon wafer preparation, photolithography, doping, and packaging, and emphasized the importance of cleanroom environments and precision tools. Real-world applications across electronics, healthcare, automotive, and space sectors were also discussed. Students actively engaged in discussions on fabrication techniques, career opportunities in VLSI, and the role of microchips in AI and renewable energy.

The talk highlighted the significance of interdisciplinary skills and continuous innovation in semiconductor design. The TEDx Talk successfully bridged academic learning with industry relevance, inspiring students to explore careers in semiconductor technology and reinforcing the Department’s commitment to holistic Engineering education.
