Organized by: Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, New Horizon College of Engineering, Bengaluru
Date: 15th October, 2025
Time: 04:00PM-05:00 PM
On 15th October 2025, the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering hosted a TEDx Talk titled “What If Engineers Are Copycats?” as part of its academic enrichment initiatives. The session was delivered by Mr. Kiran Christopher from TEDxMACE and aimed to challenge traditional views on innovation and imitation in Engineering.
Mr. Christopher emphasized the value of Reverse Engineering and adaptation, illustrating how many technological breakthroughs stem from improving existing ideas. He encouraged students to rethink the stigma around “copying” and embrace creative adaptation as a legitimate path to innovation.
Key highlights included examples of biomimicry such as Velcro inspired by burrs, bullet trains modeled after kingfisher beaks, and self-cleaning surfaces mimicking lotus leaves. The talk promoted interdisciplinary thinking, sustainable development, and educational reform focused on observation and emulation.
The session was interactive, with students engaging in thoughtful discussions and exploring real-world applications. It concluded with a vote of thanks and a networking segment, leaving participants inspired to approach engineering with curiosity and a fresh perspective.
